Funny that you posted this precisely one month after my total hip replacement surgery, the day that I graduated from a walker to a cane. Cheers Kaufman family!
My daughter (a basketball player) had the exact same issue and same surgery! FAI, hip impingement and a torn labrum. She also had a spur on the ball of her hip. Thankfully we were only an hour from a top specialist and she had a successful surgery and outcome.
Bravo for your couch to 5k recovery! I haven't had to endure anything like what you went through however I do remember deep post surgery questions that spiraled in my brain. I had had my thyroid removed a few years ago. Throughout much of my life I had felt silenced after surviving an attempted strangulation at age 11. As a sister sailor I used to cover my throat whenever I was afraid at sea. After my thyroid was removed I wondered if all the trauma I had previously seemed to store in my throat was also removed. I now like to envision my throat healthy, free, and clear—it gives me power and a strong voice in some way. I wonder if you envision the cadaver parts you were given to offer the strength and goodness of their previous owner. Perhaps she was an amazing athlete, a compassionate caring activist, or some type of s/hero. I hope so! And thanks; I enjoy following your inspirational stories.
How are you feeling now? Fully recovered? I swear I thought I was subscribed to your Substack, but I am now. I'm looking forward to more regular updates, and I'm glad you're healing.
